Arrows David Lister High School

David Lister High School

The very first Angling in School project got underway in David Lister High School during the spring term 2008. The school opted for the fully certificated, one day a week, for ten weeks package, and it proved a great success.

Despite the time of year, the combination of classroom days and on the bank sessions proved very popular. The classroom days covered a range of topics, from tackle and tactics, to the environment and fish biology.

The days on the bank were tough, with the weather being particularly unkind, but we were amazed how well the participants stuck at it, even when the coaches were getting "very cold". The last session was particularly pleasing with all the pupils receiving certificates at various levels, and it was great to see the smiles of success from those involved.

One lad, Danny won a reward day for his excellent work and attitude throughout the ten weeks, and he had a brilliant day on Messingham Sands syndicate lake, catching 19, yes 19, carp to almost twenty pounds.

Miss J Lewis, an Instructor of Alternative Curriculum, welcomed the 'Hooked on Fishing' course into the school saying...

"Many students within the school are keen amateur fishermen and jumped at the chance of being part of an accredited fishing course. The course has received a very positive response from all students involved, many of whom have improved their attendance. Thus proving that learning can be fun."
