Angling in Schools (South Yorkshire) recently completed another successful project when pupils from Kingstone School in Barnsley rounded off their introduction to fly fishing with a full-day session at Scout Dike Reservoir. The venue was provided by Barnsley Trout Club which has been a consistent supporter of the scheme to provide tuition to the next generation of trout anglers in the area.
ADB licensed coaches Kate Royce and Peter Lax were very complimentary about the pupils who they described as excellent, being very enthusiastic and quick to pick up the casting techniques they had been taught.
Unfortunately, the day was very hot and sunny, which was not conducive to good catches. In fact, the fish played hard to get and only one trout was actually hooked and landed during the session. Nevertheless, all the pupils said that they had enjoyed themselves and it is expected that some at least will be seen on the bank side at Scout Dike in the not too distant future.
